Well, in this lesson, let’s study Japanese words related to emotions!
These are very important words for communicating your feelings to others, so let’s learn it well!

感情(かんじょう) / kanjou / emotion

Let’s get started!

Types of Emotions
嬉しい(うれしい) / ureshii / Happy
悲しい(かなしい) / kanashii / Sad
むかつく / mukatsuku / annoying
寂しい(さびしい) / sabishii / lonely

Example sentences

(1)
卓球で日本が金メダルを取ったから嬉しい
(Takkyuu de nihon ga kin medal wo tottakara ureshii!)
I am happy because Japan won the gold medal in table tennis.

*卓球(たっきゅう) / takkyuu / table tennis
金メダル(きんめだる) / kin medal / Gold medal

2)
悲しいニュースばかりで暗い気持ちになる。
(Kanashii news bakari de kurai kimochi ni naru)
I feel gloomy because of all the sad news.

*暗い(くらい) / kurai / gloomy, dark
気持ち(きもち) / kimochi / feeling

(3)
の住人が夜中まで騒いでいてむかつく
(Tonari no ie no juunin ga yonaka made sawaide ite mukatsuku)
My next door neighbors are making noise until midnight and it is very annoying.

*隣(となり) / tonari / next to ~
家(いえ) / ie / house, home
夜中(よなか) / yonaka / midnight
騒ぐ(さわぐ) / sawagu / make noise

一人暮らしをはじめたばかりなので寂しい
(Hitorigurashi wo hajimeta bakari nanode sabishii)
I feel lonely because I just started living alone.

*一人暮らし(ひとりぐらし)/ hitorigurashi / living alone

Japanese people don’t show their emotions as much as people from other countries.
